About University of New England

The University of New England, or UNE for short, is an independent, coeducational university with the main campus located in Biddeford, which is the largest city in York County and Maine's 6th largest city, having a population of nearly 21 000 inhabitants, estimated during the 2000 census.

UNE was established in 1939, being founded by Father Decarry and the Franciscan friar of St. Andre's parish, first starting as College Seraphique, a boys-only high school and junior college, becoming co-ed in 1967.

The university offers its students, today, bachelor's degrees in various fields, certificates, master's degrees both on-site and online, and doctoral degrees in medical fields.

Athletics

UNE's athletic teams are known as the Nor'easters and they compete in NCAA Commonwealth Coast Conference and ECAC. Their distinctive colors are blue and white.
